The Faculty of Law and Humanities of the Central University of Chile, in collaboration with the Justice Americas Platform and various judicial actors from the continent, is pleased to invite you to two international discussions that will take place on the following days July 17 and 18, 2025, 15:30 hrs to 17:30 hrs, at the headquarters of U Central - Event Hall of the Vicente Kovacevic II Building, in Santiago.

 

Day 1 Thursday, July 17 (3:30 PM – 5:30 PM)

Power, Influence and Judicial Independence in the Framework of Human Rights.

Judges, academics and specialists fromCanada, Mexico, Costa Rica and ChileThey will discuss the contemporary challenges facing judicial autonomy in contexts of increasing political polarization and threats to democracy. Topics to be addressed include the control of power, access to justice for vulnerable groups, and the role of the judiciary as guarantors of the democratic rule of law.

 

Day 2 Friday, July 18 (3:30 PM – 5:30 PM)

Access to Justice and Disability / Experiences, Good Practices and Training Interests in Latin America

Judges and experts from Latin America will reflect on the progress, structural gaps, and training experiences related to effective access to justice for people with disabilities. They will explore institutional best practices, comparative experiences, and avenues for collaboration between judiciaries and universities.

 

Both days will feature the participation of prominent judicial authorities such as the HonorableJudge Sébastien Grammond (Federal Court of Canada), Minister Jessica González (Supreme Court of Chile), Magistrate Jorge Olaso (Costa Rica), among others.

 

The activities are open to the public and will also be broadcast via Teams.
